Security Systems For Home

Burglary, which is defined as the unlawful entry of a structure to commit a felony or theft is one of the commonest crimes in the US. It is categorized into three sub classifications: forcible entry, unlawful entry where no force is used, and attempted forcible entry. Of all burglary offenses in 2005, 65.8 percent were of residential structures.
One survey in Pennsylvania showed that 81 percent of residential intrusions occur through the first floor.A study in Connecticut showed that 12 percent of burglaries occurred through an UNLOCKED door and that in 41 percent of alarmed homes that were burglarized; the security system was not turned on.
So what do all these stats and figures tell you?

When it comes to protecting lives and properties, you can’t just let luck play as it pleases. Homes without security systems are nearly three times more likely to be broken into than homes with security systems. Due to an increase in crime, it has become very necessary to protect your home with the best security systems.

In past, people relied on other means of monitoring their home’s security, like the watchdog. But now, why opt for a dog when you can get a much more effective electronic watchdog? An electronic watchdog is basically, a motion sensor device that can detect movement and alert you in the form of a barking dogs sound.

Finding a good home security system is of paramount importance today. You need to look no further than the headlines of the latest daily newspaper, television broadcast or Internet news site to read about horrific home invasions and violent crimes that might have been forestalled by a home security system.

But the multitude of choices in the market today can be overwhelming. How does one make the right choice? When choosing a home security system, decide on the level of protection you want, make sure the system being offered meets your needs and don’t be afraid to ask questions to your home security system provider. It will only increase your knowledge and understanding of the system.
Let us now take a quick look at the myriad security devices available in the market today.

  • The features your home security system offers should be the main point to consider when selecting a system to protect your home. Also one must know his home structure more than anyone else – the materials used in building the house, the entry ways, and the intruder-prone areas.
  • Today, a home security alarm, and preferably a monitored home alarm system, is needed to ensure your home’s security.
  • A voice alert system is a perfect alternative for a shrill sounding alarm. You can customize the message and record it and then when need arises, you will be informed by that voice alert system in the form of your own recorded message.
  • The camera has evolved into one of the greatest security devices of all times. There are different types of wired cameras or wireless cameras which are used for the security of home or commercial premises like dome cameras, bullet security cameras, network cameras, hidden cameras. The camera security system is the most reliable security system.
  • Nowadays counterfeiting currency notes has become a very easy task. The counterfeit money detector detects a fake currency note and sounds an alarm when it detects one. It can be a wonderful addition and protect your business from being forged or cheated.
  • Driveway alarms can detect and inform of the presence of the intruder before he gets too close to your home. The driveway alarms can be of different types like the metal detecting probe which can detect the arrival of large metallic objects (vehicles) and the motion sensor which can detect any movement within the protected area.
  • The intercom systems also play a vital role for the security of your home. You can speak to the visitor before opening the door and decide whether to allow the entry or not. The moment a visitor presses the door chime, the camera gets activated and the image is displayed inside on a monitor. The occupant can then control the door remotely and grant or deny access.
  • Nowadays, there are also many kinds of security locks introduced like garage locks, mechanical locks, and keyless locks etc. which are operated by remotes. You definitely need a security system if you have a swimming pool at home.
  • A swimming pool alarm system is one of the best ways to ensure that you are informed about any and every incident that happens in the pool when you are not around. It is like a silent force field within your pool that will notify you about any object that falls into the pool.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How much money does a consultant for a home security systems company usually make in a month?
I have been offered a job promoting ADT security systems. The job would involve me giving these away to promote the company. I was told that per system given away, I would make between 0 and 0 depending on the number of systems sold per month. I was also told that on average, I would be selling one system per day.

I was wondering if someone in the consulting business could tell me if this sounded accurate.

    • ANSWER:
As an ADT Tect I say that’s about right. According on you sells record you could make more. And if you are really good they may ask you to move to commercial sales. And that’s where you could make the big bucks.
  2. QUESTION:

I sale home security systems door to door and am looking for ways to expand my market. i would love imput as to ways i can do so! thanks for your answers

  3. QUESTION:
Know of any good home security systems?
I need some advice about home security systems?
I want to buy one that turns on the lights and makes a loud reaction and calls the police when an intruder breaks in.
My partner found one that charges you .00 a month to call the police.
I know that there has to be one that calls them for free.
If you know of any please provide links.
    Thanks

    • ANSWER:
First of all, nothing calls the police. What your friend found is a company that will monitor your alarm The monitoring company calls the police or whatever instructions you want them to follow. the 19 bucks per month covers the monitoring fee, the installation of the system is another story. Voice dialers are available but if you point them to the police you will most likely end up with the police knocking at your door with a not so friendly disposition (And not because your place was broken into)

As far as choosing a system. Light control is definately an option. For cheap and troublesome X-10 has add on components that will control your lights with a simple dry contact or siren output. This requires a module that communicates to special switches. I say troublesome because, although the technology is really kinda cool, it is the cheap version and often goes funky. (Lights come on for no apparent reason or don’t come on at all). In some applications it works fine, others troublesome This is the risk you take for buying cheap.

For the security system part, I would definately suggest you stay away from anything wireless. Unless of course you are a sucker for punishment. For more info on the reasons I hate wireless security systems see my rant at http://ezinearticles.com/?Wireless-Security-Systems—The-True-Cost&id=562150

I have also posted some articles on security systems in general as well as ways to help protect your home with non-electronic means. These can be found on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca Protection101 and false alarm info should be of interest. There are also various other tidbits in the archive. Mostly stuff in progress ad other little titbits. I recently added a section called Q&A which posts some of the questions I answered through here.

  4. QUESTION:

Thanks, I sell home secuirty systems and need to come up with a cool name to use for my email. thanks again.

    • ANSWER:

  5. QUESTION:
What are your experiences with home security systems?
I am trying to figure out which security system to go with for our security and I am having a hard time finding TRUST WORTHY reviews on line. It seems like everything is coming from reps of the componies themselves. I want HONEST CONSUMER REPLIES only. Thanks so much!

    • ANSWER:
I too did a lot of research before I purchased my security system and monitoring service. It is very common in my area to receive huge discounts if someone who already has a company’s system refers you. So, if you know someone who already has a system, ask them to do so.

That being said, there are a lot of variables as to what you will pay. In our case, the house was pre-wired for a system which meant all of the window and door contacts were in place and there were already connections to have motion detectors. Since I had pets, I did not want to contend with constant activations, so I asked whether I could exchange the motion detectors for additional door contacts to protect my garage and 2 remote key activators. Our company had a basic package which consisted of a certain number of door, window and motion detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, panic and medical activation and hard wired smoke detectors with back up battery and one control panel and a year contract for monitoring.

They gave me the system and exchanges free, with free installation if I extended the monitoring for 2 years, so there is room for negotiation there as well. Further, I discovered you can get a system upgrade there after when you research other monitoring services after your contract ends. Often other companies will tell you that you have old technology and they cannot monitor it without upgrading which they charge you for any ways, so you get cheaper monitoring on a per month basis, but you pay for it with the upgrade. So return to your original company to extend your contract, they upgrade for free and continue to charge you the same monitoring fee. And make sure they offer a lifetime warranty on all of the equipment.

Make sure the monitoring is local, not regional, so fire, police and medical assistance is contacted immediately without delay. And, run the test annually on the back up battery. If it is low, contact the company, mine sent me one for free (yeah okay, I paid 50 bucks for the first one because I didn’t know they would send me one). Also, another security system scam is to offer regional monitoring at a lower rate with a sneaky activation fee that makes it about the same rate as the major providers locally.

  6. QUESTION:
Do you know anything about home security systems?
We are thinking about getting one for our house. I called ADT and they charge 0 for the installation alone! Protection One, on the other hand, only charges about 0. What’s the difference? Is the security system worth the money? Is it a hassle? Etc?

    • ANSWER:
You can install one yourself for less money.

My security system cost about , a series of little battey-powered alarms on all the windows and doors. For 0 you can get a pretty darn nice system that will call the service for a monthly fee. If you can use a hand drill, consider doing some shopping and following the instructions.

ADT is for old people who just want it done immediately and can pay.

Get a no solicitor sign. Those people are usually casing neighborhoods for easy marks and looking in your living room to see what you have inside.

There are other measures as well. Trim bushes, install yard lighting and/or motion detectors, put signs in trouble spots (my father had a warning:you are being recorded sign BEHIND his garage, which would have been a staging area for burglars given the layout. Neighbors and passers wouldn’t see the sign, only trespassers).

You can find a home security for dummies book for and get some great ideas. Or just go to borders and read it over a few cups of coffee.

Some people put police union stickers on their window, not sure if this helps, but it would make me think twice.

  7. QUESTION:
Do short term home security systems (for rentals) exist?
I live in a rented house. Every now and then I wonder if we should have a fire alarm and / or burglar alarm. But since it isn’t our house I can’t really get one installed. Is there such a thing as a simple home security system you can use for a short time in a rental property? And that doesn’t require lots of drilling or wire running?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, I searched for the same thing and found a company called SimpliSafe that does exactly that.
  8. QUESTION:
Why are there often commercials for home security systems on the Fox News channel?
Is it because of their target audience? The gated-community mentality people who are so fearful of minorities and crime that they need to be comforted by a strong clean-cut white male on the other end of the phone who will try to contact you immediately if someone breaks into your home?
Too bad these commercials have been running for several years now, not just since Obama became President.

    • ANSWER:
Because they prefer when people live in fear. They’re easier to control that way.
Look what 8 years of fear-mongering has brought…Americans are willing to give up their civil and Constitutional rights in the name of some false sense of “security”, and our Nation has turned it’s back on our values and morals in the name of “preventing terror”.
  9. QUESTION:
Can someone suggest a security system/home alarm system for a home in Oldsmar, Florida? Zip 34677?
Talked to Brinks and ADT in regards to a home alarm/security system in Oldsmar, FL. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions as to experience with these two companies or others in this area you can suggest? Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
As far as the big guys go, I have received alot of business from them, usually people PO’d at their lack of service.
In my totally biased opinion, I would suggest you look around for a local company. Sometimes you can get a better level of service from a smaller operator. Just be careful of the fly-by-night trunk slammers.

The thing to keep in mind, a security system should be designed around your needs as well as the unique conditions in and around your home. The typical package deals do not address all situations. Talking to a local professional will be your best bet, ultimately the choice is yours, do not let a sales monkey pressure you into a system which does not suite you and your needs.

As for wireless, the technology is far from perfect, in my opinion, the flaws by far weigh out the benefits. I have written a number of articles on security related topics. These can be found on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca. You might be interested in Protection 101, False Alarm Info as well as a little blurb on the flaws in wireless security systems which can be found in the Archive. Also, if you are considering smoke detectors, theft by fire might help you out.

      Good Luck

      Heinz

As for X-10, I’ve seen bad things happen to good people, unless you like false alarms I would stay away. I used to use their line carrier stuff for Home automation, although it is nice in principle it is what it is… a cheap solution.

  10. QUESTION:
OnStar home security system – can they listen in without you knowing?
On a GE system home security system panel, which uses OnStar, can the security system or anyone else “listen in” to your home without you knowing it?

I know , I sound paranoid, but I have no experience with OnStar or anything like it and the salesman said that when the alarm is tripped the operator will be able to hear basically anyone in my house.

I’m just wondering if it’s possible for anyone at the security company (which I’m afraid isn’t the most reputable) or some type of “hacker” could listen in to my home without the alarm indicating this or without there being any other indication.

    • ANSWER:
we have something like that but its life-alert, we have a box with a loudspeaker on it, its also attached to our fire alarm, as soon as the system is tripped on our end the loudspeaker turns “live” and the office can hear what is going on in our house and they can talk with us, but only when its tripped on our end. they cannot turn it on whenever they want that their end.

Best monitoring company – APX Alarms, they recently won the J.D. Power & Associates award for outstanding monitoring and customer service (previously it belonged to Brinks).
They also have a deal where it is only 39.99/month. and THAT’S IT. No hidden costs or anything.

Hello, anyone out there who could give me advice on selling home security systems?
I work for an authorized ADT dealership as a sales representative. I do this as it is flexible and I have lupus and a son with autism and had to leave my career in corporate sales. Does anyone have any ideas for me to help build my business and get customers interested? What type of marketing might help me. Oro, I know you are kidding but there are actually some shady security dealers that have done things like that to cause scare tactics in communities. Its sad but true.

    • ANSWER:
Residential security system sales is a tough profession. You can be successful, but don’t think that there is any quick or easy way to make sales in this business.

That being said, there are generally two times when people make a decision to buy a security system for their home. The first is when then are building a new home or buying an existing home that doesn’t already have a security system. The second is just after they have had a bad experience, such as a burglary.

To reach the first market, you need to keep track of new home construction and real estate sales in your area. There are often local business newspapers that show building permits that have been issued. Some of these papers also show real estate sales transactions. Use this information to contact people who are building homes or who have recently purchased a house. Also try and develop relationships with homebuilders and real estate agents that are active in your area.

Reaching the second market is a little tougher. In general, people looking for a security system after they have been a victim of a crime usually reach out to someone who they trust. This can be a friend or neighbor, or professional adviser such as a lawyer or insurance broker. One thing that can work well is to network with providers of other services, such as locksmiths or window installers. These folks often get called in just after a burglary has occurred and can possibly be a source of referrals.

Finally, get active in as many local community and networking groups as you can. Develop a short presentation on home security. This should offer generic security tips and not just be an ADT sales pitch. Offer to give this presentation at group meetings and community events.

It will take you some time to perfect your sales techniques and develop a referral base but this will eventually happen if you stick with it long enough.

      I wish you luck.

    Security Systems?

    • ANSWER:
You may want to consider going to ADT, I used to install for them, the reason I say this Is because the monitoring of your system is the most important aspect of the reliability,

ADT’s monitoring Is done through an Actual fortified building, That could withstand somewhat of an actual attack, that’s because ADT is the oldest and Biggest alarm co.

  23. QUESTION:
Any recommendations for a home security system besides a dog?
Our new house has a preinstalled Brinks home system. After searching reviews, it appears they are a hit/miss in terms of customer complaints and complements. Does anyone have any honest opinions and stories about who is a better home security system provider. Thanks.
Who is a better home security company to go with, ADT, Brinks or some other firm? Any good stories and suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
Security begins with knowledge about your vulnerability to intruders, how tempting your home is to intruders and who you have invited to your home. Most burglaries are committed by persons who have been in the home in the recent past. Know who you allow in to your home, have nothing that an intruder can easily convert to money. The most common targets are computers, cash, home entertainment items, guns, drugs and alcohol. Make your home hard to enter, thieves are lazy, know your neighbors, be aware of strangers in your neighborhood. Make friends with your neighbors. Even a rose bush or a cactus in front of your windows may deter a thief.
  24. QUESTION:
    Are home security systems foolproof?
I am thinking of getting a security system for a house I am moving into. Will it definitely keep burglars out, or can the best security system be disabled criminal is determined enough?
    What are the best systems?

    • ANSWER:
Nothing is foolproof, but the alarm companies are getting better. For example, to combat the problem of a criminal cutting your phone line so that the security alarm company doesn’t know about a break-in, many alarm companies will now use your cell phone as a back-up from of communication.

As for the effectiveness of a home security system, your house doesn’t have to be totally impregnable in order to deter criminals. It just has to be harder to break into than any of the other houses on the street. A criminal isn’t looking for a challenge, just an easy score.

The good news here (for you) is that most people are extremely lax when it comes to home security and your less security-conscious neighbors will most likely provide would-be home invaders with better opportunities for an easy score than you will.

Check out the show “It Takes a Thief” for more insight into how criminals think when they’re casing neighborhoods. It’s very eye opening and can give you some good insight into what you should do to protect your own home.

As for systems, include Monitronics in your mix of companies you look at. They offer cell phone and VOIP (for Internet telephones, like Vonage) monitoring, and start at around 32 bucks a month.

Tell them you are considering having a system installed, but ask only one question. “Are you satisfied with your alarm company.” Ask any more, and folks will get suspicious. If they volunteer more, fine, but don’t push them.

Personally I do not like ADT.

What is the best security system for your home?

    • ANSWER:
Sorry for your unpleasant experience, it can take a while to get over the heebie jeebies from something like that.

I would go for the dog idea, companionship and security in one!

Sturdy locks, good window latches, a can of pepper spray and some confidence building self defense courses!

  33. QUESTION:
Could you recommend a home security system?
I have been looking at ADT, Alarm Force, and Magen for Toronto. I want the two way voice monitoring as well as smoke detector monitoring. Alarm Force seems to be the best choice. Does someone have a bad/good experience to share about any of these home security systems?

    • ANSWER:
I’m not in TO but I am in Vancouver. All I can say about alarmforce is I have run into many customers of mine who have had nothing but bad experiences with them. Personally, I am not a fan of their advertising as it is filled with nothing but falicies. Under pressure, they have changed alot of it but it still is fairly suspect.
Also, their alarm panel is nothing more than a portable (Read throwable) box which looks similar to a shoebox. The speaker in which the bellowing voice you hear on the radio comes from is mearly the size of one from a small transistor radio of the 70′s. The entire system is contained in this box and can easily fit in a toilet. Plastic is also low grade and can easily be stepped on. I had some pictures which I wanted to post on my website, but they ended up being mis-placed… good for some entertainment (I like to call these systems “Toilet alarms”). Also, the contract is 7 years which might as well be life because the system is even more useless without monitoring and it is not a standard alarm panel which can be monitored by anyone. Two way voice is available through most companies, if you really want it.

Enough of the anti Joel rant. As for the others on the list, I do not know about Magen, but ADT is one of the big boys aimed at numbers only. Free systems in quantity is the name of the game. In my opinion, you are better off going with a small company that has a good history. You will most likely get a better level of service and be happier in the end. Ask around locally, don’t just go for a company because they are national. Also, don’t rely on the largest yellow page ad. Sometimes the best companies are found through word of mouth advertising.

All that aside, I have written a number of security related articles that can be found on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca. I am not in your service area but if you want, I can ask around for some names. Some articles of mine which may be of interest are protection 101, false alarm info and there is also an article on the truth about wireless “security systems” in the archive.

      Good Luck

  35. QUESTION:
What is a better home security alarm systems? Hardwired security alarm or wireless security alarm?
I am also looking for an alarm system for my business

    • ANSWER:
Hardwired security alarms will always be superior to wireless security alarms. The simple fact being, modern airwaves are being increasingly cluttered with Radio Frequency (RF) Interference. This which interfere with wireless security alarm systems are many and can range from the simple high voltage power line to wireless routers and radio towers..

The thing is, wireless is highly unpredictable, particularly in security alarm systems. You may have a perfectly sound wireless security alarm system for years, then all of a sudden the neighbour 3 blocks away decides to purchase a ham radio. All of a sudden, the monitoring station is getting panic alarm, the police are being send on what appears to be a weekly basis and you have fines from the city for excessive false alarms.

Hardwired security alarm systems, on the other hand, are far more reliable in that they are not as susceptible to the problems of RF. Sure, if there is a strong source of RF behind a motion detector some of the older models may falsely activate. However this is simply fixed by replacing the detector with one with a higher level of RF Shielding.

Fact of the matter is, no security alarm system is entirely free from the possibility of false alarms. Hardwired security alarm systems are, however, much less prone to issues. Hardwired security alarm detectors are also universally compatible between hardwired security alarm systems; Wireless security alarm detectors typically only function with the wireless security alarm system for which they were designed – this can result in expensive system replacements if one wireless security alarm detector fails.

There is more information on the differences between wireless and hardwired security alarm systems on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca There is an article entitled “the truth about wireless security systems” in the archive.

I hope this answered your question.

  37. QUESTION:
    home security SYSTEMS?
ok,i have a dilemma ,which is better wired home alarm sys or wireless,iv been quoted 165 for two motion sensors plus alarm box and keypad all installed or wireless for 399 same kit only alarm box is solar.wiv wired i assume you just hook up to electric and no more worries and ireless i guess i wud have to change batt every 3-6mnths,. WHICH IS BETTER WIRED OR WIRELESS and what brand,i have in mind (5 star alarm for wired) and micromark or yale for wireless

    • ANSWER:
Wireless alarm systems are now just as reliable as hard wired systems. It used to be that wireless systems were subject to interference from outside sources, but now, with advanced technology, they use unique frequencies to avoid this. Your wireless system (box) will have to be connected to an electrical outlet, but will have a back-up battery. Most wireless sensors now use lithium batteries, which last 7-10 years. Below is a link to an article comparing hardwired vs. wireless systems. Good luck!

  39. QUESTION:
Can you build you own home security system?
Installing the cameras, sensors, wires, etc and then connecting it all to a main computer and then set up the wireless alerting devices – notifying you and then the police department? Is this a difficult project but worthwhile since there is no need for a monthly fee that you pay with other security systems?

    • ANSWER:
They do have all that stuff available but it is not fool proof. If you are in need of security that bad you should just pay a company that does it professionally. If you want the police notified. If you want to perter burgulars you could put that stuff up and then have motion detectors that make an anlarm sound. There are lost of stuff to use to keep your home secure. Depending on how much you need to have your home protected depends on whether or not you need to pay a fee.

  43. QUESTION:
Home Security systems/cameras? Someone broke in?
My mother has saved bills for years, a while back they came up missing, and she can’t find them. She had them in one spot, but she was rearranging furniture, and it questioned her that she may have misplaced it. But by now, she would have found them. She also had a ring missing months ago, and she hadn’t moved it. Well, that bothered her, but she thought MAYBE her husband did it, but she didn’t think so. Anyway, now she has this safe (she’s had it since I was a kid) and it got broken into, the knob was busted and everything. She called me freaking out.

What are some home security systems (the lower cost/good quality kind)
Also, we were wondering about the nanny cams, where can you get those?
She doesn’t want to get both a home security system And a nanny cam, but she would like something that would comfort her.

Or even cameras, she wanted something you couldn’t tell, but if someone has broken into her house, I don’t guess it’d matter too bad, I mean we would like the best input.?

She can afford some things, but she can’t afford a whole lot. So we’d like the best thing.

    • ANSWER:
Mommy2four, since the cost of material and labor greatly varies by location, no one can really give you a good price on here as to the cost of installing a security system, but just don’t stop there in protecting your and your mother’s property.

Learn to take steps to make your house and property as unattractive for burglars as possible RIGHT now–you don’t have to wait.

There are like 12 actions you can take right now to drastically reduce the likelihood of having your house targeted by a burglar, and these steps I have taken long ago after reading them on this security article found on this linked handyman web page:

      http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Home_Improvement_Zone_Security_Systems_And_Tips_Secure_Protect_Home_Family_Safety_Tips_Measures.htm

Also, you can perhaps install your own security system–a wireless one–on your own if you wish, as found in this how-to article:

      http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Home_Improvement_Zone_Security_Systems_And_Tips_Install_Wireless_Home_Alarm_System.htm

      This should help.

  45. QUESTION:
How much for a good home security system?
What do I need for a basic home security system.

I don’t want anything elaborate as I live in a “safe” area.

I want something like a remote operated button that my elderly mom can push in an event someone breaks in. A loud alarm that will go off both inside and outside to “scare” any robbers and alert her neighbors.

    • ANSWER:
We paid about 800 for a basic system – our windows, sliding doors and outside doors needed to be wired. We had a three keypads put in. We do not have a panic button but we do have an outside alarm that goes off really loudly (my kids have set it off). I would be careful about a panic button depending on how likely your mom is to set it off. Our town charges to send out cops to your home for a false alarm call. Your get one “free” visit” and any thereafter are .00. Our quarterly charge to have it monitored are about 0.

We only had the first floor and the basement done and the second floor windows are not alarmed.

You can also get a self installed alarm at Radio Shack. Or even cheaper just get motion alarms that you can place on doors and windows.

Good luck – I like our system, we live in a rural area and even our neighbors can hear our alarm and do call when it has gone off.

  50. QUESTION:
How do I determine what is the best home security system?
I have bought a new home and am concerned about rising crime incidents in my area. How do I determine what is the best home security system for my particular place?

    • ANSWER:
You should get an estimate for your particular home by contacting a security expert that lives in your area. There are a lot of scammers out there who are running “security companies” out of the trunks of their cars and with cell phones. You want a company and an installer who is local to you, is licensed and has good referrals. You want to look through their site and see what their Better Business Bureau rating is.

If they are registered with the BBB ( a good thing) and their rating is good, you will see this “BBB” logo somewhere on their site. Ideally, you will find someone with an A, or better yet, A+ Rating.

My company, www.MulhollandSecurity.com, is such a company. My policy is to do the best for the customer — we don’t let anyone go away unhappy.

There are so many variables in home security systems that you need to have an expert on your side who has a record of acting in the best interests of the customer. When you see that high BBB rating, it basically means that they are doing their best for the customer: getting the best equipment for the budget and making sure the installation is correct.

Some of the slickest websites for home security are not really home security businesses. They are websites and toll-free numbers that take your information and then sell the lead to a locksmith in your area.

I would suggest you find these qualifications: website. high BBB rating. and lots of referrals on their site. Call and make sure that they are local company with a real office or shop.

A person like this will not steer you wrong in deciding the best system for you. He is concerned with his PR and reputation enough that he will do the right thing with you — get the best and most appropriate system at the lowest price.
