Accounts Payable (AP) departments are under increased pressure to strengthen controls, drive out costs, and increase efficiencies of manual and time-consuming processes. This can be difficult to accomplish when considering the distributed nature of AP processes. For instance, invoice approval typically takes place on several levels and generates large volumes of documentation that are hard to manage effectively. In addition, departments face increased pressure from compliance issues such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act to better manage paper-based processes.
As these issues continue to progress, the case for accounts payable automation becomes stronger. By automating paper-intensive processing, AP departments are able to optimize the invoice approval and payment process. One of the innovative ways organizations are achieving this automation is by utilizing imaging and workflow solutions.
With a typical imaging and workflow solution, AP staffs are able to view invoices images as part of an automatic routing system. Everything from the receipt of an invoice and approval to vendor payment is documented in the system. The process begins when a vendor invoice is received. The paper-based invoices and related documentation are converted into images which can then be accessed by authorized users. The invoices are automatically routed using defined notifications and conditions to support the business process. This automated, step-by-step processing of AP invoices is the most effective way to keep the flow of documents steadily moving.
By eliminating the physical movement of paper-based documents, the time spent trying to find files is dramatically reduced, leading to increased employee productivity. The system enables customized internal controls to be created for each business process, resulting in immediate access to documents, faster approval time and reduced cycle time.
There are numerous benefits associated with the use of imaging and workflow in terms of helping AP departments increase efficiencies. The workflow management solution offers a significant reduction of costs, stronger internal controls, and the overall streamlining of the AP invoice review and approval process. In addition, the automated internal controls and instant access to documents eliminates the chance of misplacing or losing paper, duplicating or overpaying invoices, or making late payments.
Another important benefit of a comprehensive workflow management solution is that it allows numerous members of a company to securely collaborate in real time. Since the documents are stored in a centralized repository, other personnel can be given instant access as well, cutting copying, shipping, and faxing costs. The improved electronic audit trails can also be extremely valuable, especially during audit reviews.
AP invoice processing can actually be transformed into a “zero touch” environment with the right imaging and workflow automation solution. This means that AP is able to enter the paperless world everyone dreams about – no one in the department has to touch paper.
In order to create a “zero touch” process, vendors are directed by the AP department to remit all invoices to a central Post Office Box location, which is received by the service provider. The provider’s staff then prep, scan and index all invoices each day, capturing important data elements such as point of contact, vendor name, invoice number and more.
As soon as the invoice enters the system, the internal controls set up by the AP department go into action. An automated e-mail notification is sent to each approver informing the person that an invoice is awaiting review. The point of contact then has several options such as approving the invoice, routing it to another approver, declining, or pending invoices for later approval.
Once an invoice is approved, it is routed to a higher approval level or to accounts payable for a final review. Invoice data is then transferred through EDI into the organization’s accounting system and payments are scheduled.
An imaging and workflow solution provided in a Software-as-a-Service model can be configured to provide notification of duplicate invoices, route invoices above a certain amount to particular staff, create and maintain approval timers, and perform workload balancing. Invoice coding is tracked in Web-based workflow forms and cross-checked and validated against accounting system tables.
There’s no software to install, no hardware to manage, and no infrastructure for IT to support with a Software-as-a-Service solution. Overall, the Software-as-a-Service solution allows AP professionals to maintain tighter controls over the entire payable process and reduce costs. Productivity also increases with the workflow automation process, enabling AP departments to handle growing invoice volumes without adding people or reassigning resources.

QUESTION:
Best home automation system: X10 or Insteon?
I’m researching a home automation system that turns off/on lights & fans and such. And one that also has several cameras. So far I’ve come across Insteon and X10. My friend just purchased X10 but I think Insteon is better. Does anybody have any experience with either of these or any other companies that they would recommend?-
ANSWER:
Not an either/or proposition. Most Insteon products are backward compatible with X10. Were I to start over would choose Insteon.
X10 sends signals strictly over house wiring; Insteon adds RF signals for improved reliability.

QUESTION:
how to find out if i have a ip enable home automation system?
i want to dowload a system control on my ipod but i dont know which system have how do i know which one i have? person with best answer gets ten points.-
ANSWER:
If you have nothing other than your computer connecting to an outside service which needs an IP address, then you don’t have one. Nintentos DSi/Wii can communicate with the internet and they require an IP address. Emergency items like the fire alarm system, home intrusion may or may not be wired to connect wirelessly. The “I fell down and can’t get up” device for the elderly probably requires an IP address to work. Some of the latest cellphones provide home automation controls where you can turn items on/off. There are lots of companioes that provide these products to set up ip enabled home automation systems if you want them. QUESTION:
What are the best types of electronic lighting and automation systems to put in high-end homes?
We are looking for electronic control of all the systems in our new home. Thoughts?-
ANSWER:
This is not something for the DIYer. Your best bet is to work with a lighting designer as well as a home automation company. If your house is under construction then this will be easy to do but if nothing is home run to a central point you will have a tough time.

QUESTION:
I want home automation and security?
I have an old brinks bhs-4000a system in my house and I was think of taking that out and put a system in where i can hook up all the door/window/PIRS/smokes/ etc. up and then hook up relays to lights, A/C, mag locks, dorr latches and other devices to turn on and off. I would also like to get a mic and speaker to do 2 way and ptz cameras and record temperature or if there is flooding (inputs that are digital for sure but analog would be nice but analog is NOT a must). I want a system that can hook up to my computer or the network/internet so I can control devices via the web and get text messages (or emails about troubles and alarms) and have many zones like 40 to 100.What would be the best way to do this? What brands and products would work best? Cheaper the better but I do under stand that I may have to pay $$$ to get what I want. I’m an experienced electrician and just started in the electronics systems industry. I can program about anything (may take me some time but I’m a fast learner and can figure out about anything (with some help of people I know))
Thanks in advance.

QUESTION:
I would like to design and build my home. What kind of income would this entail?
Ever since I’ve taken an interest in residential architecture, I’ve been picky about home designs, and figured the best way to go would be to have a self-designed home somewhere in my future time line.I’m thinking of a dome house of sorts: Eco-friendly and off-beat. As well as trying to implement technologies such as radiant floor heating, photovoltaic arrays (solar panels), and a centralized computer automation/energy management/home theatre system.
Pretty much just an elegant, modern, unique home implementing energy-saving and money-saving ideas.
What kind of income and payment would self-built homes entail? Considering I’m going into engineering, would a -100k salary allow me to pursue this dream? Would a significant portion of the home value need to already be saved ahead of time?
You don’t have to answer all of these, just whatever you feel you know.
Ah, location. Certainly not California. I was thinking:
>In the plains outside Chicago
>The mountains in Colorado
>Texas because i lake a more arid climate
>Stay with my German roots and my family and keep to the Midwest.-
ANSWER:
There are magazines and other sources that provide approximate cost per square foot for various types of houses (although maybe not as modern as what you describe).Your salary should be enough (depending on location) and certainly the more you save up before starting, the better. Banks will make loans after some to most of the house is built so that they have an interest in something besides a dream – - so you might have a lean year in the checkbook while your house is being built. Good luck.

QUESTION:
Linux media control center – Best Distro?
Well, i have a couple laptops that I have gutted and am turning into Digital Picture Frames. (http://www.instructables.com/id/Dell-Laptop-into-Digital-Photo-Frame/). Anyways. I figured that since I want to start automating my home, why not make these “Picture Frames” part of my automation. So I figured out that I could make a keyboard and trackpad flip out of the bottom of the frame to control it.HERE’S MY QUESTION:
What Linux derivative can I put on these laptops that will let me:
– Set a slideshow (or that cool mac collage photo thing) as the screensaver
– Pull those pictures off of a network drive.
– Play MP3s off of a network drive (to local speakers which are actually hooked up to a stereo)
– Use FireFox
– Is fairly simple to write programs for as I add on to my automation systemComputer Specs are :
20 Gig Harddrive
CR-RW Disk Drive (which I plan to take out once the OS is installed)
10/100 Eth Card
600 Mhz processor
128 Mb RAM
USB 1.1 slot
(Originally came with Win 98)Thanks!
Sorry, I forgot to add the Distro’s I’ve Tried:
-OpenSUSE (Wouldnt load – my guess is not enough RAM)
-MacPUP (really liked it, but it wouldnt let me install to the harddisk for some reason)
- Xubuntu (I’m running this now, i would like to have something better if i can)and I would much rather use a GNOME desktop than KDE

Just tried Fedora Core 10.. wouldn’t load on the computer… too memory intensive.-

ANSWER:
Not very long. We could bring them all back home AND trillion in offshore accounts with the FairTax Act. H.R. 25For those who don’t know about the FairTax, a little background:
The FairTax Plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax on new items only, a rebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue replacement, and, through companion legislation, repeal of the 16th Amendment. This nonpartisan legislation (HR 25/S 1025) abolishes all federal personal, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, self-employment, and corporate taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax – collected by existing state sales tax authorities. The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend, not on what we earn. It does not raise any more or less revenue; it is designed to be revenue neutral. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system. More details can be found at www.fairtax.org
The income tax equation is income- taxes-compliance dollars = spending
The Fair Tax equation is income = spending + taxes+ compliance dollars, so here we are taxed as we spend and keep the compliance costshttp://wethepeople.org/wpblog/?tag=the-fairtax-act

Thanks for reading this and for your time….-
ANSWER:
First, your friend is right: electrology in English is a hair removal technique. You are either studying to be an electrician (the technician who fixes the wiring in a house) or an electrical engineer (the professional who designs electronic and electrical devices). I’m going to assume you mean the latter. This website explains the procedures and requirements for getting a student permit in Canada: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/index.asp. It also explains how to get a work permit, which is a separate issue. Many foreign students in Canada do not have work permits.
International tuition fees are steep, and may not be affordable for you. Expect to pay ,000-25,000 a year. You will have to prove proficiency in English by writing an exam like TOEFL and getting a satisfactory score (each university has its own standards). Otherwise, there are no national exams: you simply fill out an application for each university that interests you, listing your education and marks, etc. You may have to get your marks converted by a special agency. Again, each university sets its own mark standards. For entrance to an engineering program, the standards are very high – typically 90% (A+) or higher in the Canadian scheme.
I don’t want to discourage you; lots of students come to Canada, often from very poor countries. But it’s a competitive and expensive process. I disagree that Canadian universities are the cheapest. For an EU citizen like yourself, British universities are far, far cheaper than Canadian ones.
Besides, I really don’t share your worry about Greek universities closing down. The threats to you are:
(a) lower (but still satisfactory) quality of education
(b) interruptions from strikes and protestsEven if the country went bankrupt, the universities would continue to function.
If you’re really bent on an international education (which is a good thing), the best option may be to finish your backelors in Greece and then apply for graduate school abroad. Grad students generally get paid, and have greater access to scholarships, etc.
Good luck to you.

ANSWER:
Honestly, I understand the whole “university is a must” thing. I always knew I was heading off to university as well. I want to support my family as well, thinking about the future is a pretty scary thing haha, but take a breather. In case you don’t know, “college” in Canada is a 2-year school (if you take it full-time) leading to an Advanced Diploma; “university” is a 4-year school (full-time) leading to a Bachelor’s degree.Since you’re already in university, when you apply, you may be eligible for transfer credits if the program you choose here is similar to the one in Greece. You’ll apply to university as an “International Student” transferring from another university. Since you’re not a Canadian citizen, it isn’t technically going to be cheap – the fees usually start around K (Canadian dollars) for international students. When you apply, you’ll also, most likely, have to submit some form of proof for the English language requirement. There are several ways of doing this and it depends on the school – and they will tell you how, after you apply. For example, at York University in Canada, this is how they do it: http://futurestudents.yorku.ca/requirements/docs_language
Your English has a few errors but it is decent from what I can tell, so I wouldn’t worry over the Language Proficiency Requirements too much. For now, you should do what Lea said, and search up the university you want to attend. I highly suggest attending a university, instead of a college, as college degrees aren’t really valued by employers nowadays, unless you choose something job-oriented like Nursing. After you find the university you’re interested, go on their website (or call them) and ask about their admission requirements for International Students transferring from a different university. For example, these are York’s requirements:
http://futurestudents.yorku.ca/requirements/univ
When you find a school that you can meet the requirements to, apply there, submit any additional documents, and hope for the best! Honestly I’m not sure what “14,3″ is since our grades are different here but they’ll most likely look at your university marks, not really your high school ones. There are no university exams in Canada, they base their decisions solely on your grades and, for some programs, auditions or supplementary forms.
From what I’ve heard, International Students apply on OUAC 105: http://www.ouac.on.ca/ouac-105/
It isn’t difficult to use so don’t freak out lol.Keep in mind that the deadlines for certain universities may have passed, for International Students, already. So, when you find a school and program you like, contact them and ask for their deadlines. You’ll most likely have to apply next semester/year but that’s fine, since you were planning on working for a year anyway.
Hope that helps!
